A Star Flowing in the Dark: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Inspired by an unforgettable line from Nâzım Hikmet's Kuvâyi Milliye Destanı (The Epic of the National Forces) and taking seven years to prepare, the exhibition is titled “A Star Shining in the Darkness: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk” and is directed by Fahri Özdemir, General Coordinator of Folkart Gallery.

This valuable Atatürk exhibition, which is entirely dedicated to paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of our Republic and is a corporate social responsibility project of “Folkart,” will be presented to the public at the İzmir Folkart Gallery on October 29 after years of effort.

This valuable exhibition, which will be open to the public free of charge in İzmir until April 2024, will first be presented to art lovers in Ankara and then in Istanbul as a Folkart Production.

The exhibition, which has been in the works for months, features 150 previously unpublished photographs of the Great Genius Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, shared with the public for the first time in Turkey, along with many unknown objects used by Atatürk. These objects include examples such as Atatürk's cigarette cases, cane, and tie. Photographs signed by Atatürk to certain individuals, along with photographs taken by local and foreign photographers, form the most striking part of the exhibition. The originals of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's private correspondence, handwritten letters, medals, and telegrams from critical moments are among the other notable elements of the exhibition. The exhibition also features Atatürk's own handwritten notes, a letter from his mother Zübeyde Hanım, period posters and documents related to Atatürk, as well as numerous examples of period newspapers and magazines, and very special objects produced for the Republic and Atatürk a century ago.

The exhibition visually captures the Ottoman Empire's immense journey, from a period when it was described as the "sick man" of Europe and nearly on its deathbed in late 1918, to the first years of the founding of our Republic following the War of Independence, which was fought under extremely difficult conditions.

Folkart Gallery also received voluntary support from Turkey's esteemed Atatürk collectors for this special exhibition.
